Since its inception, Oman LNG has placed significant emphasis on contributing to the growth and development of Oman and its people in various spheres
Oman Liquefied Natural Gas LLC (Oman LNG) is a corporately and socially responsible organisation through creating benefits to the employees, stakeholders and community. The company has a well-designed alignment between CSR and business strategy to ensure the strategic balance between its social responsibility and the business. Some good examples of CSR integration into Oman LNG’s business culture are environmental protection, health, safety and environment (HSE), and SMEs support.
Oman LNG’s plant delivers world-class performance in minimising environmental impact on air, water and soil quality. The Sultanate hosts the world’s largest breeding beaches for Greenback Turtles with Oman LNG as the leading sponsor of the Turtle Research and Exhibition Centre in Ras al Jinz in the eastern region of the country. Also, Oman LNG is a key sponsor of the Environmental Society of Oman’s activities that range from indigenous species protection to the championing of waste reduction, reuse and recycle programmes.
The company manages health, safety and its environmental (HSE) responsibilities systematically through a documented HSE management system which ensures continuous improvements in HSE performance. This is an effective system and ensures the protection of employees, contractors, the public, and the environment in which they work and live. To keep environmental care at the heart of the business, the company continually evaluates and monitors all operational and administrative activities to improve performance. The manufacturing procedures must meet required ISO standards to reduce the environmental impact arising from daily operation. In addition, the company updates the code of conduct and work ethics manuals continuously to ensure best practices of employees and contractors towards the consumption of water, electrical, materials, and fuel.
SMEs are a major cornerstone of Oman’s economy; the company enables SMEs and provides equal opportunities to compete for all service contracts. In addition, prompt payment of SMEs is controlled by practical registration and payment systems. Also, the larger companies that win service tenders are required to provide a clear approach to SME development and inclusion.
In regard to the community development Oman LNG has, since its inception, placed significant emphasis on contributing to the growth and development of Oman and its people in various spheres; not in the least, its vigorous Social Investment Programme. The company invests 1.5 per cent net income after tax (NIAT) to contribute to the social development of sustainable programmes. In order to further strengthen its robust corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts with more focus and prominence, Oman LNG’s board of directors decided to establish a separate legal foundation back in 2009. July 1, 2015 marked the operational start-up of Oman LNG Development Foundation (ODF).
Today, Oman LNG’s CSR programmes reach the entire nation of the Sultanate and contribute to the socio-economic development of the country. Over the past 16 years, the company’s social investment programmes have spanned the length and breadth of the country with more than $150mn invested in over 4000 projects. The success in working with a number of key stakeholders and partners has led to measurable improvements to national healthcare, traffic safety, education, entrepreneurship, tourism employment, and capacity building to maintain a fruitful relationship between Oman LNG and the people of the Sultanate.
Oman LNG believes that as a responsible corporate citizen, it has an obligation to bring home to the community, and the country at large, the benefits born of delivering LNG to customers in various parts of the world, an endeavour through which the company earns substantial revenue for the country.
