Rural Areas Electricity Company has awarded the contract for the construction of a new Masirah Island Power Plant to Global Chemicals & Maintenance Systems. An OER report.

Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAECO) has awarded a contract worth RO18.96mn to Global Chemicals and Maintenance Systems (GLOBAL), for the construction of the new Masirah Island Power Plant (56 MW) at Sharkiya region. The prestigious project award celebration was held on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Muscat Intercontinental Hotel, amidst well-wishers, distinguished guests and key clientele. Says Abdul Hafidh Al Barami, managing director (GLOBAL), “The winning of the contract reflects RAECO’s faith in our capabilities. The project also underscores the government’s desire to develop the Masirah region. So while it is important for us, it is also an important infrastructure project for the Sultanate.”
The welcome address at the programme was presented by Mohammed Hussein Kamel, general manager, who spoke on behalf of the management to thank all its longstanding patrons and valued customers for their continual support and encouragement. The management also acknowledged the contribution of all the staff members for their outstanding services rendered all these years. The highlight of the evening was the signing of the agreement by Abdul Hafidh Al Barami, and Lars-Ake Kjell, regional director (WARTSILA) to supply 7 DG Set of 8 MW each with auxiliary equipment.
It is worth mentioning that Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAECO) had awarded another contract to Global to the tune of RO19.94mn for the construction of the new Saih Al Kirat Power Plant (48 MW) at Dhofar Region in the month of August 2014. GLOBAL is partnering with WARTSILA to supply 6 DG Set of 8 MW each with auxiliary equipment.
Securing these major contracts is a testimonial and acknowledgement of the fact that the services and engineering works of GLOBAL are in line with international quality standards and this is something that the company and its employees can truly be proud of.
The function was attended by the prominent personalities representing the various business houses in Oman. The impressive function concluded with the handing over of mementoes as a token of appreciation, followed by dinner.
