The traditional industry leaders and fast growing younger companies walked away as winners in the annual AIWA Awards for Best Performing Companies, held on 10th September. This year marked the eighth edition of the annual AIWA Awards. Top five best performing companies, based on their performance on select seven financial parameters in the financial year 2017, were felicitated in three different categories – large cap, mid cap and small cap.
The red carpet awards ceremony was held at Hotel Sheraton Oman. His Excellency Dr. Rasheed bin al Safi al Huraibi, Chairman, Oman Tender Board, was the Chief Guest, for the evening. It was attended by over 200 industry leaders and senior officials.
Leading brands in the Sultanate joined hands with Alam al-Iktisaad Wal A’mal (AIWA), the leading Arabic business publication from United Media Services, in bringing the AIWA Awards for Best Performing Companies to life. BMW was the Luxury Automobile Partner; National Life & General Insurance was the Insurance Partner and Voltamp was the Support Partner. Gulf Baader Capital Markets (GBCM) was the Knowledge Partner whereas KPMG was the Validation Partner for the ranking process used for the awards. Times of Oman and Al Shabiba were the media partners and Ruwi Modern Printers was the print partner.
In the large cap segment, National Life & General Insurance topped the list of winners. It was followed by four other winners including Bank Muscat, Bank Sohar, Oman Refreshment and Ahli Bank. In the mid cap segment, Al Ahlia Insurance emerged on top. The other winners in the segment included Taageer Finance, National Finance, A’Saffa Foods and Oman United Insurance. The small cap category had Oman Qatar Insurance taking up the pole position among the winners. Vision Insurance, Majan College, Takaful Oman and Oman Chromite were the other winners in the small cap segment.
Furthermore, achievements that go beyond the balance sheet were also recognized through Special Awards. Abdul-Amir Abdul-Hussein Ibrahim Al Ajmi, External Affairs & Value Creation Director, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) was felicitated with ‘Inspiring Leadership in In-Country Value (ICV)’ Award. ‘Most Outstanding Corporate Leader’ Award was presented to Eng. Hussain Bin Hassan Abdulhussain, CEO, Haya Water.
The Award for ‘Technology Person of the Year’ was presented to Eng. Maqbool Al Wahaibi, CEO, Oman Data Park. S.Venkatachalam, Chief Executive Officer of National Life & General Insurance was felicitated with the Award for ‘CEO of the Year’. The Award for ‘Business Excellence in Real Estate’ was presented to Fahad Al Ismaili, the Founder & CEO of Tibiaan Properties. The Award for ‘Best Rebranding Campaign’ was given to Oman Airports. Shell Oman Marketing walked away with the Award for ‘Excellence in Innovation & Technology’.
In addition, the ‘Excellence in SME Development’ Award was presented to SME Development Fund. The ‘Excellence in Building National Talent’ Award went to Takatuf. Voltamp Transformers Oman got ‘Excellence in Exports’ Award and ‘Excellence in Innovation & ERP Solutions’ Award went to Prime Business Solutions.
The august audience was also addressed by two esteemed guest speakers – Shamsa Al Batrani, Chairperson of Young Professionals Network, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO); and Dr Anil Khurana, Partner, US & Middle East, Strategy & Innovation, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
